“I don’t like labels, boxes, or categories,” says the multifaceted Mashal Waqar. With so much experience, knowledge, and accomplishments, it’s hard to describe Waqar in a word or to bestow a single title upon her. Though known primarily as an entrepreneur, she has planted her stake in many fields and left more than a few admirable marks as a Pakistani woman of influence.

A Career in the Technical Field

Among her many titles, Waqar also considers herself a “techie”. She has experience with coding and working with different web3 organizations and previously scaled a global media startup. She was one of the co-founders of the Global media company The Tempest, lending her expertise and knowledge of technology and media to the mission. During her time with the company, she and her co-founders built one of the fastest-growing women’s media companies whose content was read by millions of individuals around the world.

The Path to Entrepreneurship Was an Unplanned Journey

“I never planned on becoming an entrepreneur,” claims Waqar, “I sort of just fell into it.” In 2019, Waqar earned herself on the Forbes Middle East’s 30 Under 30 list. The following year, she aided in establishing the previously mentioned The Tempest, whose mission was to support female entrepreneurs and help them transition from their foundational stages to earning revenue within two months. Additionally, Waqar has worked as an environmental impact reporter for the feminine care startup My Lily Box and is currently a senior consultant for Telescopic Ventures.

Waqar as a Writer, and the Catharsis of It All

Over the past few years, Waqar has, in her words, “recently started calling [herself] a writer.” Since 2019, within her Substack, she has and continues to share glimpses into her personal life and journey, including concerns of the spiritual, reflective thoughts on the “whys” and “how to”, academic and business pursuits, and many small, personal moments between it all, including book recommendations and reviews. With such an honest and conversational writing style, there isn’t a single topic that Waqar cannot speak about eloquently. Amongst her ever-evolving portfolio, Waqar has also given two TEDx Talks and is a co-author of the book The Possibilities Project, and other research.
