Racing  prodigy Enaam Ahmed returns to the Indy Pro 2000. Having narrowly missed out on first place in last year’s series, Ahmed looks to secure the top spot.

No stranger to victory, Ahmed achieved the most race wins (13) in a season in 2017. This broke the record in British F3, previously set by legendary racing driver Aryton Senna.

Enaam Ahmed speeds through racing records

Record-breaking characterizes Ahmed’s racing record. In 2014, at just 14 years old, Ahmed won the European Karting Championship, making him the youngest ever to do so. That same year he won the World Championship, and many were calling him the next Lewis Hamilton.

In 2015, he became Rookie Champion of Formula 4, before progressing to British Formula 3. 2017 then became a huge, record-smashing year for Ahmed. Winning the championship, he scored the most points ever in a single F3 championship (654pts). Ahmed also had the largest gap over second place in British F3 history and the most race wins ever.

Since then he’s come 3rd in Japanese F3, joined Aston Martin and most recently, Juncos Hollinger Racing.

Enaam Ahmed: the next Lewis Hamilton

Ahmed first dreamed of becoming a racing champion after watching Lewis Hamilton’s championship win in Brazil in 2008. That year he entered his first karting competition at 8 years old, and achieved his dream four years later, winning the British championship.

Ahmed’s victories have come through sheer determination and hard work. “The fight was never with other drivers, I felt it was always within myself. I pushed myself beyond what I thought was the call of duty in that car and that’s what made me better than the other drivers,” he says. For Ahmed, racing is “99.9% a mental sport .”

Surpassing Aryton Senna’s 1983 record of most race wins brought up a load of emotions for Ahmed. Senna had been his childhood hero, and a testament to the decorated history of British F3. Ahmed would end up racing the same circuits as Senna did some three and a half decades before. Considering Senna’s tragic death while racing, Ahmed expresses some trepidation around following this path. As he notes, the cars have gotten safer but the circuits haven’t.

Enaam Ahmed gears up for the 2022 Indy Pro 2000

Ahmed joined Juncos Hollinger racing in late 2021 and signed up for the 2022 Indy Pro 2000 Championship in February of this year. Taking place in the United States, the series will feature two street courses, five road courses and two ovals.

The Juncos Hollinger racing team have expressed their excitement in racing with Ahmed. After last year’s near miss, they’re optimistic about this year’s series.

“He really showed how strong of a driver he is at the end of last season when he almost won the final race, if he had one more lap we are confident he would have come away with the victory. Enaam [Ahmed] has been a great addition to our program and we are looking forward to carrying the strong momentum we have built in the off-season into St. Pete in just a few short weeks time,” they say.
