Amel Bent is a French R&B and pop singer. She is a winner of the French radio station NRJ’s Music Award for Francophone Female Artist of the Year. 

The singer released her latest album, Vivante, in October 2021. She is also expecting her third child, which she showcased on the runway at Paris Fashion Week. 

Amel Bent gained fame from TV Singing Competition

Bent rose to fame during season 2 of the French TV singing competition Nouvelle Star in 2004. She progressed to the semi-finals, finishing in third place.  

While Bent did not continue to the finals, the show’s producers noticed her and she was able to pursue her singing career. Bent would release her debut album, Un Jour d’été (A Summer Day), later in 2004 with Sony Music. The album’s single, “Ma philosophie,” sold over 500,000 copies and stayed France’s No. 1 for six weeks. The album itself went platinum and reached No. 3 on France’s charts. 

The singer went on to release seven more albums. À 20 ans (2007) and Où je vais (2009) also went platinum. Délit mineur (2011) reached gold. Bent released her latest album, Vivante, in October 2021. 

In 2012 Bent competed on the third season of the French dancing series Danse avec les stars. She and her partner landed second place. In 2013 she guest-starred in the French TV adaptation Scènes de ménage. 

Bent continues to use her talents in singing as a coach on France’s The Voice: la plus belle voix. 

Amel Bent grew up in Paris 

Bent was born in Paris France in 1985 to an Algerian father and a Moroccan mother. She grew up in the Paris suburb La Courneuve with a brother and sister. 

The singer attended high school in in Seine-Saint-Denis at the Lycée Jacques-Brel. As a teenager, Bent wanted to become a criminal profiler and began studying psychology. However, after discovering her passion for music, the young singer joined a gospel choir. Bent auditioned for Nouvelle Star, the show that would launch her career, in December 2003 at 18 years old. 

The singer is mother to two young girls, Hana and Sofia, and now expecting her third. 

Amel Bent struts first catwalk while pregnant

Bent confirmed her pregnancy in October 2021 on the French talk show Sept à Huit with Audrey Crespo-Mara. In the same interview, she revealed that she suffered a miscarriage before the current pregnancy. At that time, she was filming season 10 of The Voice. 

Following an invitation to Paris Fashion Week, Bent walked her first catwalk on March 5. She took the opportunity to model for Nicola Lecourt Mansion’s Autumn/Winter 2022/2023 collection. 

The singer strutted down the runway in a figure-hugging pastel pink dress. A thin gold chain around her waist highlighted her baby bump. She completed the look with a tight high ponytail, a pink purse, and platform heels. 

Bent shared photos of the outfit on her Instagram. In the caption she wrote, “If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then thank you Lecourt Mansion for looking at me.”
