Maryam Nassir Zadeh has never played by the unspoken rules of high fashion. While others’ worlds revolved around New York Fashion Week, Zadeh traveled overseas to attend a friend’s wedding. And when the pandemic wreaked havoc with the industry, Zadeh looked for new ways to use old materials.

For her latest collection, Zadeh recycled old pieces in new ways, turning classics into completely new wardrobe pieces. This approach began as a response to the pandemic, during which Zadeh’s limited resources spurred new creativity. However, she hopes fans will be inspired to adapt their own wardrobes into something entirely new, a tenet of “slow fashion”.

Maryam Nassir Zadeh bounces back from the pandemic

Though the pandemic hit the fashion industry hard, Zadeh is ready to bounce back. Closed since Spring 2020, her New York City store re-opened a few weeks ago. Her latest collection, Resort 2022, reflects her creativity during this time.

Vogue Runway reports that Zadeh took her impressive archive of high fashion pieces, selected her best, and adapted them for the new collection. As such, each piece is not only certain to be among her greatest hits, but also demonstrates the designer’s creativity.

A classic ’70s-inspired piece from MNZ

While many collections have drawn from the bright colors of Zadeh’s global background, this collection offers more natural tones. “I get my inspiration from many difference sources,” Zadeh told W Magazine. I love shapes from the past, especially the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s.”
