The last year has turned the world upside down for everyone. The loss of public gatherings and events especially turned the music industry on its head. Nevertheless, artists around the world have found creative ways to bring their music into the world. Whether that means taking the time to write new music, or in cases like Krewella and Natasha Khan (Bat for Lashes), turning to live concerts.

Khan, a British-Pakistani singer and musician who goes artistically by the name Bat for Lashes, last released a studio album in 2019. In 2020, she released an EP, and stepped back when she had her first child, a daughter born in July 2020.

Almost a year later, Bat for Lashes has joined a host of other musicians in bringing a taste of live music to her fans via live recorded albums.

Bat for Lashes releases ‘Livestream at Home. Los Angeles, 2021’

Recorded in April, this latest release features many of her biggest hits from her impressive career. This includes a few tracks off of her most recent 2019 album Lost Girls, as well as earlier hits.

Fans can stream the live performance on Bandcamp, and purchase it for £7.

In addition to the new album, Bat for Lashes has recently announced the opening of her new Patreon account. “I will be posting exclusive music, inspiring content, drawings, letters, artist tips, and sharing more of my creative experience and process,” the artists explains. This latest creative outlet gives fans a chance to immerse themselves in her inventive world.

Khan decided to create this Patreon to take back creative control of her career. In 2019, she released Lost Girls with independent distributors. Since then, she has decided to cut out the middleman between her creativity and her fans.

“For me, the creative spirit is a fragile thing, and when business gets over-involved it pollutes the river, and sets off on a journey that makes nobody happy,” Khan explained to The Guardian. “It makes me sad that artists get interfered with.”
