Stand-up comedian Mo Amer has signed on for DC’s Shazam! spinoff, Black Adam. The film will star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, as well as Pierce Brosnan, Noah Centineo, The L Word actress Sarah Shahi, and more. While Amer is best known for his stand-up special “VAGABOND”, he is no stranger to acting. He also had a role in Ramy Youssef’s Ramy, playing the titular character’s cousin.
The Palestinian-American comedian will also star in the upcoming comedy, Americanish. Meanwhile, he continues to do stand-up comedy both solo and as a member of the comedy group “Allah Made Me Funny”, the longest-running Muslim comedy troupe in the world.
Black Adam will debut sometime in 2022. At first, Warner Bros and DC planned to have Johnson’s Black Adam be the villain in Shazam!, starring Zachary Levy. However, they ultimately decided to split the film, offering Johnson the main role in in the spin-off not as the villain, but as the anti-hero.
