Wendy Muhammad began her career as a struggling real estate agent. But with a change of mindset and dedication, she soon grew into a self-made millionaire, successful entrepreneur, and business guru.
“As a little girl, I dreamed of owning my own business and providing opportunities,” writes Muhammad. “I would go to school and in my mind, I’d pretend that school was my business. I always saw myself as a businesswoman.”
Wendy Muhammad has her hands in many successful ventures
Muhammad is President and Director of Business Affairs for the Minimally Invasive Vascular Centers, a medical practice offering a variety of vascular and endovascular services. She also owns the award-winning Massage Envy franchise, and sits on the company’s National Franchisee Advertising Board.
On top of all this, Muhammad has an additional career as business consultant and crisis manager. In addition to this, she works with notable clients like the Department of Treasury, the City of Chicago, and AIG Insurance.
As the pandemic spread, Muhammad started the Conscious Entrepreneur Challenge, in which she encourages entrepreneurs in the African American community to support one another.
“Let’s take charge and save our community from this pandemic,” she writes. “There is no problem that we can’t solve if we put our minds together. We can change the narrative.”
From struggling real estate agent to multimillionaire
Muhammad started her career with a Bachelor’s in Finance and Accounting from Iowa State University and a Real Estate Sales License. However, Muhammad found the world of real estate deeply unsatisfying. So she turned her eye towards a more creative way of life and business.
She began her formal career with Price Waterhouse Coopers, where she got her start as a business consultant and project leader. There, she started training entrepreneurs and has since helped over 1000 people get their businesses started.
Eventually, she left the firm to start her own business. After a series of trial and error, she found success.
In 2008 Muhammad founded the John Edward Group LLC., named in honor of her stepfather, “whose leadership and interpersonal skills helped to shape [her] career and innovative approach to business.”
Since then, Muhammad has expanded her specialties. Now, her skills also include hospital investment and healthcare acquisitions.
“The Mind of an Entrepreneur” by Wendy Muhammad
Muhammad seeks to pass on her knowledge and success. One way to do so: her Mind of an Entrepreneur brand, which includes books, radio shows, and film projects.
Her book The Mind of an Entrepreneur: Mental Strategies for Navigating the World of Business is aimed at helping people develop the right mindset for success and uncover their full potential.
“…Despite my so-called intellectual pedigree, I doubted my abilities left and right. I got scared for my very survival, made emotional decisions, and lost everything I had on three separate occasions,” Muhammad writes about the beginning of her career. “In short, I didn’t have the mind of an entrepreneur. It was only through sheer force of will and the Grace of God that I kept going and gradually honed the mindset necessary for success.”
The book is part of her “mission to help people discover and monetize their authenticity.” Other than this book, Muhammad has a mass of resources that she has released online, most notably a podcast series, which explores concepts such as emotional intelligence, perseverance, and knowing when to say “no”.
Muhammad designed The Mind of an Entrepreneur Movement to help teach people to “think outside the box.” The tips, tricks, and advice Muhammad offers is anything but cookie-cutter.
