Fashion designer Alena Akhmadullina has released her 2020 Resort Collection preview. The collection tempers her traditional Russian influences with modern elements of popular Western Fashion.
The designer’s obsession with fur particularly manifests itself in her new collection, which morphs the traditional and the trendy. Her utilization of fur is minimal and sharp, fusing feminine and boyish motifs.
Akhamadullina loves to blend styles and translate Western fashion trends in her own Eastern dialect. As she states, “I like to mix the brutal and architectural forms with the romantic and feminine.”
Alena Akhmadullina Dresses Supermodels and Olympic Athletes
The daughter of two engineers, Akhmadullina found herself naturally attracted to fashion, though she did not initially think it would be her career. After she demonstrated a young talent for drawing, her parents enrolled her in art school.
Akhmadullina studied design at the St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design. Shortly after graduating she founded her eponymous design company and quickly made a name for herself. Her unique brand has earned numerous awards, including the “Dress of the Year” contest and Smirnoff’s “International Design Award Smirnoff.”
Today Akhmadullina is considered one of the brightest stars of Russia’s fashion history. Her works have been worn by celebrities around the world, including actress-model Eva Green and supermodel Naomi Campbell. Akhmadullina also designed the distinctive uniforms worn by the Russian team at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Shining Star of Russian Fashion Week
Akhmadullina’s designs recently made waves at Russian Fashion Week. Her pieces conveyed both energy and thought, balancing the fashion industry’s need for eye-catching design and the practical considerations of women consumers who actually wear these designs.
“We need to do a beautiful show for our clients,” Akhmadullina says. “We need to show them what they should wear in the next season.”
Her vision and designs are frequently compared to the iconic fashion houses of Prada and Manolo Blahnic. Yet, her style maintains a decidedly Russian element, re-interpreting global high fashion to meet tradition. For example, Akhmadullina’s take on high-fashion leisure wear also incorporates a traditional babushka hoodie, satisfying the craving for both nostalgic pieces and the latest trends.
Rise of the Alena Akhmadullina Brand
Akhmadullina admits that her designs emphasize luxury and opulence more than most designers. “In general, a Russian woman pays more attention to fashion, in comparison to France or the UK, for example, and she spends more money on cosmetics and clothing in comparison to these countries,” she explains.
In the first decade of its existence, the Alena Akhmadullina brand became a phenomenon in Russia, revolutionizing the fashion scene. And since 2005 the Alena Akhmadullina brand has been a permanent fixture of the Paris Fashion Week Pret-a-Porter.
Akhmadullina’s rich, high-fashion designs are available for purchase online and ship globally.
