For the second time, Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi has won the Emmy for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score).
Djawadi has previously won the same award in 2018. But the composer’s 2019 Emmy win still holds special value for him.
“It feels extra special now that the show has ended,” he says. “I’ll always be looking at this award, and it’ll just remind me of this amazing show that I worked on for so many years.”
After 8 years of composing the rousing score for Game of Thrones, Djawadi has amassed a huge fanbase, paving the way for a multi-year live tour that will wrap up in October.
Emmy Honors Ramin Djawadi for “The Long Night”
Djawadi’s Emmy award specifically honors his compositions for the Season 8 Episode, “The Long Night”. The 82-minute battle episode contains minimal dialogue. This left room for some of Djawadi’s best work, including the haunting tune, “The Night King”. This is only the second time in the series that Djawadi made use of the piano in his score.
Although Djawadi could not attend the Emmy Awards himself, he has commented on how much the win means to him.
“Having the opportunity to compose for Game of Thrones has meant so much to me, and it’s truly a privilege being awarded this honor,” he says. “I appreciate the incredible cast and crew, as well as everyone that watched and listened throughout the years. It’s been an amazing journey.”
